Urban Art & Subculture in Berlin 2003-2021
Reclaim your City! – For almost two decades, artists and groups have come together under this label for collectively organized exhibitions, mural actions, congresses and temporary occupations. Reclaim Your City is a network and archive that combines forms of intervention such as urban art, graffiti, raves and critical mapping with urban political protests and uses the means of art to demand a right to the city for all.
The 480-page book BITTE LEBN documents this movement in a unique way from an activist perspective. Many unpublished photos show the creation of famous Berlin walls and roofs, document actions, and recall many a vanished open space in the city. But the work also asks about the limits of artistic forms of action, which are in danger of becoming a brand themselves and a site factor for major cities.
