In Berlin, as in cities all over, every day families are evicted or forced to leave their homes. Neighborhood assemblies and protest actions are increasingly organized by neighborhoods in solidarity to defend themselves against these processes. Successful protests, for example, against the disappearance of small businesses, show that resistance and networking are worthwhile.
This map can serve as an instrument for socio-spatial analysis of real estate commercial exploitation interests and profit-oriented urban design, as well as to make urban protests and alternatives visible, to provide inspiration for networking, involvement in urban movements and mutual aid, as well as to be used as educational and propaganda material.
Attention! Although the map was updated in 2017, it does not claim to be complete, but only represents the collective knowledge of the people involved in the mapping process. Questions, comments, criticism can be sent to info@orangotango.info.
Together with the map, the mural “Berlin not for Sale” was created in 2014 at the corner of Manteuffel and Naunynstraße, visualizing some of the mapped sites, processes and struggles.
